Amazon's end of summer sale begins today and among heaps of other bargains, you can now save £10 on the excellent Amazon Echo Show 5. Usually £80, the diminutive smart display received a solid 4-star review when we tested it earlier this year, and in particular, we praised its small design, camera privacy shield and reasonable price.

Indeed, compared to the Lenovo Smart Clock – its closest rival – the Echo Show 5 has a larger screen and also comes with that handy front-facing camera and a 3.5mm output that you can connect to a more powerful Hi-Fi or speaker.

We weren't bowled over by its audio quality nor the microphone sensitivity, but that's not altogether surprising for a small smart display that's also at the cheaper end of the market. The 2nd-gen Echo Show , by comparison, costs an eye-watering £220 and though it has a bigger screen and better sound, we think the Show 5 is the more tempting everyday device, especially if you're on a strict budget.

As you'd expect, it's powered by Amazon's Alexa, which is useful if you already have other Echo products. If, on the other hand, you're already invested in Google's ecosystem, the Lenovo Smart Clock might be the better choice. It, too, has recently had its price slashed to just £60 at Currys .
