As an interior design editor and enthusiast of all things decor, one of the questions I get asked to weigh in on most is: “What are the best online furniture stores to shop at?” or simply “Where do I buy furniture online?” My friends ask, my mom asks, and strangers on the Internet ask.
Mostly, I find that people want suggestions about where to shop for furniture a few reasons:
They get stuck going to the same couple of local places and are looking for something different
They want to know where to find stylish furniture within their budget
They don’t shop for furniture and décor often and just aren’t sure what’s out there, save for the obvious options.
They have something in mind that they want and can’t find it, and want to know where else to look
They are a little nervous about making a big purchase, like furniture, online, and are looking for a recommendations.
So, if you fall into one of the above categories, bookmark this page (or pin the photo below). Because I’ve put together:
The ultimate list of the best online furniture stores.
I’ve included online furniture stores, specialty stores ones that only sell throw pillows or accessories), and a healthy mix of boutiques and national chains, so you should be able to find what you’re looking for here. For simplicity’s sake, I only included home decor stores with e-commerce, so you can shop all of these stores online (which is why you won’t find HomeGoods on this list even though I love me some HomeGoods).
I also added little dollar signs next to the name of each store, which is my own personal categorization of how expensive each place is. There’s no real science to it, but I think it’ll give you a good idea of which places are bargain-friendly and which ones are better suited for your investment pieces.
Bookmark this page, or pin the pin below, and every time you get stumped on where to shop for new throw pillow covers, or dining chairs, wall art or whatever you’re scouring the internet and curbsides for (where my side-of-the-road furniture people at?), reference this hand guide to the best online furniture stores out there.

The Best Online Furniture Stores
Lulu & Georgia is quickly becoming a go-to store for all things on-trend in home decor. Their boho-cool assortment of furniture is high-quality and hip, and feels like it was personally curated by Erin Gates or Sarah Sherman Samuel … which is probably because they’ve done incredible designer collaborations with both, not to mention Bobby Berk, Clare V., and Ellen (yes, that Ellen). Lulu & Georgia also offers a mix of their own original collections and brands like Arteriors, Chilewich, Ollie Ella, and more.
The Think of Perigold as Wayfair’s sophisticated older sister. Perigold, which is owned by Wayfair, sellls higher-end designer furnishings from brands that are often trade-only brands that only interior designers can shop), like EJ Victor, CR Laine, Janus et Cie, and Schumacher. While you might pay a little more than you would at Wayfair, you’ll also get access to options you won’t find anywhere else.
Prefer a more budget-friendly array of options? Wayfair is one of the best online furniture stores simply because of their massive selection. Their slogan is “a zillion things home” and they ain’t lyin. Wayfair has SO many options that it can sometimes be overwhelming, but if you know what you’re looking for, their search tools will help you whittle down the best options. I prefer Wayfair for accent furniture and case goods, like side tables, ottomans, and benches, but I’ve also heard great things about their custom upholstery.
H&M’s home line is one of the best out there for on-trend, cute accents and decor. If you want to update your shelfie with the it-objects everyone has on Instagram, you’ll find an affordable version here. I also love their throw pillow cover collections. They change seasonally and are up-to-the-moment trend wise (and CHEAP! Oh so cheap.)
If you’re looking for an online furniture store that’ll give you pattern and color, and things that no-one else has, check out The Inside. This print-happy furniture retailer was founded by Christiane Lemieux, the former founder of Dwell Studio, and features sofas, headboards, ottomans, etc. covered in bold textiles.
6. One King’s Lane ($$-$$$)
I loooove One King’s Lane. And for a few reasons. First, they group their decor into stylized collections like “Montauk Beach House,” or “Chic Chinoiserie”, so you can shop by the style that speaks to you. They also often have one-of-a-kind vintage items, or trade brands at a discount. It’s just a well-edited site that I always turn to for both shopping and inspiration.
If I could live inside one store forever, Rejuvenation might be it. I love the mix of vintage, modern, and traditional pieces they sell, and the whole vibe is just casual-chic meets Americana and I’m here for it. But enough about me. Rejuvenation is an awesome place to shop for lighting, hardware and plumbing fixtures (think cabinet pulls, bathroom towel bars, shelving brackets, stair hardware, sinks, faucets, etc. etc.), and furniture. They also have a great selection of vintage items and antiques.
What would a list of the best home decor stores be without Crate & Barrel? This OG furniture retailer is a trust source for quality furnishings at mid-range prices. I personally love their upholstery (sofas & armchairs) because it’s well-made and customizable, but they’re also a great source for kitchen and bath items, and larger case goods like buffets and sideboards, and dining room furniture.
Anecdote is new to my list of the best online furniture stores because, well, it’s pretty new. The chic little store was created by the co-founder of The Everygirl website, Danielle Moss. She teamed up with an interior designer friend to launch the brick-and-mortar store in suburban Chicago, but if you don’t live in the Windy City, fear not, ‘cuz they’ve got a website. It’s contemporary, but in a classic, non-minimalist way, if that makes sense. They’ve also got a lovely selection of original art and antique finds.
Ballard is another classic home decor store that I’m often surprised to find that people don’t know about (I mean, it’s definitely a huge store and no hidden gem here, but not always as top-of-mind as, say, Crate & Barrel). This is weird, but one of the things Ballard is best for is bar stools. I’ve always found that they’re hard to shop for and Ballard has a great selection. It’s also good for upholstery and larger pieces like dining tables, headboards, and outdoor furniture.
This gorgeous shop by the founders of Studio McGee (of Instagram fame) is genius. Their original furniture is my favorite (think arm chairs like the ones in the photo above, daybeds, and accent tables) because it’s so unique, and of-the-moment, and not like anything else you’ll see.
OK, so this isn’t really a home decor store, and more of a home decor marketplace, but details aside, Etsy is a great place to find unique things for your home. I shop Etsy mostly for art (check out my list of where to shop for printable wall art, it includes a bunch of my favorite Etsy stores where you can buy gorgeous wall art for a few dollars, but I also love it for vintage signs, small accent items, and lighting.
Looking for throw pillow covers? Check out Cloth & Stitch. They offer hundreds of handmade pillow covers for just $25, and they actually ship super-quickly!
What would a list of incredible home decor stores be without good ol Tarjay. Their seasonal collection get me every time, and I always head straight to Target when I feel like my home is getting a little serious and I need something fun and trendy.
CB2 is the ultimate contemporary home store. Their furniture and decor is on-trend, but in an elevated, chic way that seems more designer-sourced than mass-market. I love it for everything from sofas and tables, to mirrors and lighting, to hardware and tabletop. It’s one of the best online furniture stores to shop if you’re looking for on-trend pieces that are quality, but don’t cost a small fortune.
Zara’s home decor line is as hip as their clothes. Like H&M, this is mostly a spot for decorative finishing touches like throw pillows, tabletop, cute bath towels, etc.
Pottery Barn is, of course, a staple, and for good reason. They make great quality furniture, and though it isn’t inexpensive, it’s well worth the price for the quality. Besides furniture, they’re also a great resource for things like bathroom vanities and mirrors, hardware, drapery and drapery rods, and textiles (their towels are divine!).
I found Scout & Nimble on Instagram, and it actually took me a few months to realize it was a home decor store because I was just so into looking at all of the gorgeous inspiration photos they post. But let me tell ya, once I realized they were selling their aesthetic, I was hooked. They sell a mid-to-high-range selection of trending furniture and decor from high-style, designer favorite brands like Four Hands Furniture, Mitzi Lighting, Noir, and Selamat.
amazon home has awesome basics for the home (and also literally anything you ever wanted, but you knew that). I’ve Primed things like flatware and serving pieces for the kitchen, end tables and bedding. They do offer furniture, but honestly if I were going to order larger things like a sofa or dining table from a huge online store, it would be Wayfair since their customer service is specifically tailored around furniture and I find it to be better.
The prettiest home decor store of all time. No really, if you haven’t been to one of their bricks-and-mortar stores, go. They’re stunning. Serene & Lily is expensive, but if it’s in your budget, check it out for preppy-traditional and coastal-inspired furniture and decor.
In my opinion, Chairish is one of the best online furniture stores for vintage and antique pieces. Every home needs a few good antiques, and Chairish is a great marketplace for sourcing antiques, gently used and vintage finds (art, furniture, rugs, accent pieces). Some of it is super-high-end, dealer-quality stuff, but there’s also plenty of sales and bargains to be had if you dig around a little bit.
We’ve all seen the gold, french-inspired Anthropologie mirror sitting atop every mantle on Instagram, but Anthropologie is more than just its ubiquitous mirror. They’ve got great sofas (how cute is the blue velvet one above?) and coffee tables, beds and headboards, bathroom hardware, and even wallpaper and kids stuff, too. But I do really love that mirror…
Anthropologie’s sister store, Terrain, is primarily dedicated to garden, faux florals, planters, and outdoor, but they do a great job with decor and candles, too. If you live near one of their retail stores (there’s only a handful of them), they’re beautiful and worth a visit!
Looking for modern design, trending prints, and of-the-moment colors? You can’t beat West Elm. Their furniture is contemporary, but with an accessible price point that makes it economical to test out the latest looks at home.
I love World Market. They always, always have a few gems that make this site (or store if you live near one!) worth a regular visit. A few things I’ve had the best luck with at World Market: Lighting, shelving, and side chairs/dining chairs. It’s also a great source for small tabletop decor, dishes, and bathroom textiles.
If you love minimalist, Scandinavian-style furniture, Batten Home should be a go-to. They offer lots of big and hard-to-find Danish brands, and a good array of furniture and accents.
Sure, you can spend a small fortune on a rug — and there are plenty of vintage oriental rugs I’ve fallen in love with over the years that have cost thousands. But also: I have two kids and a dog, and until none of them live with me any more, I choose slightly more budget friendly rugs for my home. Enter: Rugs USA. I’ve gotten SO many rugs from them. Their selection is huge, they ship fast, and you can get an 8′ x 10′ rug for under $400.
28. Urban Outfitters ($-$$)
If you haven’t shopped at Urban Outfitters since you were in college, you might want to give it another look. UO is an unexpectedly awesome (not to mention affordable) spot for modern & on-trend decor like throw pillows, wall art, and accent furniture (like this gorgeous little gold side table). They’ve also got a good selection of smaller-scale apartment furniture.
Kirkland’s is another favorite spot for bargain-friendly decor. I’ve mostly purchased things like mirrors, baskets, and dinnerware, but they’ve got a huge line of products that also includes furniture, drapery, bedding, bath and more. Style-wise, they have a little bit of everything, but their biggest selection by far is farmhouse/country style decor.
Overstock is another home decor behemoth where you’ll find anything and everything from tons of different brands. I find their selection is similar to Wayfair, but I’ll often price compare to see which site is offering the better deal.
Arteriors is a design-lovers paradise that’s especially awesome for lighting and accent furniture that makes a statement. If you’re on a budget, make Arteriors the “high” in your high-low mix and I promise you your entire space will look fabulous and expensive.
I couldn’t leave IKEA off a list of home decor stores, could I? (Of course not. It’s IKEA.) It may be cheap, but some of their stuff is pure gold. I have a sofa from IKEA that I bought online and love (the Farlov sectional), and I get most of my picture frames there because they’re cheap and awesome. If you don’t live near an IKEA, or can’t stand sorting through the massive warehouse in person, their website should be a staple.
Frontgate makes great-quality staples, but especially when it comes to outdoor decor like furniture, address plaques, house numbers, and planters. But! It’s also a robust source for seasonal decor (especially during their post-holiday sales), bedding, and towels.
In the market for a stylish sofa or a set of gorgeous dining chairs you won’t see anywhere else? Check out Interior Define. This new-ish shop makes custom furniture accessible and affordable: You choose your silhouette and fabric, and they ship it out to you in a matter of weeks. They also have bricks-and-mortar guideshops in a few major cities, which are great for checking out swatches and practicing your favorite supine position on your potential new couch.
And finally, I’m rounding out the list with another industry new comer, Article. The site has been around for a few years now, and is gaining popularity thanks to their high-quality, well-priced sofas, chairs, beds, and case goods. Their selection is limited, but everything they’ve got feels fresh and hip, so if you suffer from home decor decision overwhelm, make this your one-stop shop.
So there you have it! While this is a pretty exhaustive list, I’m sure there are plenty of killer home decor stores I forgot, so I’ll update as more pop to mind, or if you know one I left off, feel free to drop it in the comments!
A few other stores to check out that I remembered after I finished this post:

37. Burrow
38. Inside Weather
